Grand Military Day At Sandown Park

Walking With The Wounded are the nominated charity for this year’s Grand Military Gold Cup Day at Sandown Park Racecourse on Friday 9th March…

The event is steeped in military heritage and features an afternoon of 7 races. The feature race of the day, the Grand Military Gold Cup, is a National Hunt Chase open to horses aged five years or older, run over a distance of 3 miles and half a furlong.

The race is restricted to (currently serving) Military Amateur Riders. Ownership of the horses in the race is also limited to serving or ex-serving members of the armed forces.

The race was first run in 1841 and the 150th running took place in 2013.

Guy Disney galloped to victory in last year’s race riding Rathlin Rose, who also won the Royal Artillery Gold Cup Earlier that year.

Walking With The Wounded support a pathway for vulnerable veterans to re-integrate back into society through sustainable employment and independence for them and their families.

The equivalent of £1 from each ticket will be donated to Walking With The Wounded by Sandown Park.
