Walking With The Wounded has secured a two-year grant from the St James’s Place Charitable Foundation to expand frontline support for veterans in the north west of England.
The funding will be used to provide a dedicated care coordinator in the region, strengthening the charity’s ability to support veterans facing complex physical, mental, social and financial challenges as they transition to civilian life.
Walking With The Wounded works with veterans who require more intensive, personalised support, often over extended periods. The charity says demand in the north west remains high, with significant numbers of former service personnel seeking help.
In 2024, staff at Walking With The Wounded spent more than 48,000 hours working directly with veterans, providing one-to-one support tailored to individual circumstances. The charity says its frontline caseworkers are central to this approach, offering practical help alongside longer-term guidance.
Tom Knight, head of services at Walking With The Wounded, said the grant would allow the organisation to maintain face-to-face support in an area where need is particularly acute, helping veterans address challenges that affect everyday life after service.
The St James’s Place Charitable Foundation supports small and medium-sized charities in the UK and overseas, primarily those working with disadvantaged children, but also organisations focused on mental health, hospices and cancer support.
