Greenwich Hospital awards £825,000 to Combat Stress for naval veterans’ mental health support

Greenwich Hospital has awarded an £825,000 grant to Combat Stress to support specialist treatment services for Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary veterans across the UK.

The funding, spread over three years, will help Combat Stress continue delivering care for veterans experiencing complex mental health conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder. According to the charity, around 73% of veterans who complete its treatment programmes recover.

Deirdre Mills, director of Greenwich Hospital, said the award reflected a commitment to ensuring naval veterans receive specialist mental health support and recognised the lasting psychological impact service can have.

Combat Stress chief executive Chloe Mackay said the grant would help more veterans access treatment and better understand their mental health, while supporting long-term recovery outcomes.

Greenwich Hospital has supported serving and former Royal Navy, Royal Marines and Royal Fleet Auxiliary personnel and their families for more than three centuries through funding and welfare provision.
