MP Hits The Roof For Veterans Development

On 27th April, less than a year after ground-break, Our Enterprise and the Wilton Community Land Trust will welcome John Glen MP to fit the last roof slate in a Topping Out Ceremony for an innovative new development for veterans and Service Leavers…

In addition to 44 flats for veterans, the development will feature a vocational re-training and enterprise space, as well as a coffee shop, benefitting veterans, local residents and businesses and creating an integrated facility for the whole community.

Joining local MP John Glen will be Matthew Bell, CEO of Our Enterprise, and representatives from partner organisations, veterans and serving personnel, stakeholders and supporters, who have all been advising on the best way to deliver the project.

Matthew Bell, social entrepreneur and project founder said: “After months of planning and building we are delighted to be at the stage of welcoming our dedicated supporters and stakeholders onto site for a Topping Out Ceremony. During the ceremony we are looking forward to thanking all those who have been supportive of the project and those who will be working with us in the future.”

The project is a joint venture between Our Enterprise, Redrow Homes and Wilton Community Land Trust, and is the first to deliver an innovative new model in sustainable community housing development. The former MOD site at Wilton, which was home to the Headquarters UK Land Forces, was sold in 2013.

The aim of the new project at Wilton is to help create a sustainable community by harnessing the skills of veterans to play a part in local regeneration while supporting them into training and employment, reflecting the local heritage and the needs of both the local community and veterans.

The specialist charity Alabaré will be supporting those veterans onsite with complex needs to ensure that they are ready to participate in the opportunities on offer. The development is on track to be completed by the end of the year.
