Pathfinder International, the national Military resettlement magazine has pledged its support to the wide range of Armed Forces Day events in the North East region.
Based in Gateshead, Pathfinder International has been serving British Troops since 1991, going through their resettlement phase from Armed Forces life into the civilian world.
Now for the first time, the publication is officially backing the prestigious Armed Forces Day on 24th of June, applying its weight behind a range of events from South Shields to Middlesbrough.
Editor, Mal Robinson said: “It made sense for us to back the day both nationally by promoting events online and more so locally, by having a presence at the array of events, as well as featuring some of the characters, the unsung heroes behind these events.”
The magazine has recently visited Wolsingham primary school in Bishop Auckland, where they met with schoolchildren helping with their local event.
Robinson adds: “It was great to meet the kids and capture their thoughts on the Armed Forces and we are using the videos we made online and for social media. There were some great quotes as you can imagine from them.”
Indeed, it was Hugo Wilson, 10, whom produced one of the stand out quotes of the visit, stating: “These people (the Armed Forces) help us and make our world a better place.”
Wolsingham teachers Mrs Hall and Mrs Emerson added: “The children were delighted when Pathfinder asked for their thoughts to feature for the magazine. There were a lot of nerves, but they practiced and produced a great video. We are all looking forward to the main event on the 24th of June.”
The campaign to back Armed Forces Day also sees events in West Jesmond, Shildon, South Shields, Seaham, Trimdon and Consett highlighted. The Consett event in particular is headed up by charity I Support A Hero – a local charity started up by Helen Hall, following the death of a friend in Afghanistan and another colleague who was injured in the country.
Helen said: “It all started off when I lost a friend in Afghanistan and the charity is really important to me. These incidents drove me to support others. We do the likes of Christmas parties for veteran’s children and help out with individual cases. I think it is great the likes of Pathfinder are supporting such events.”
Pathfinder will be releasing their Armed Forces Day issue on June 16.
