A blind Veteran from Suffolk will be taking on the UK’s biggest inflatable 5K fun run next month and is challenging others from the area to join him…
Colin Penaluna, 58 and from Bury St Edmunds, served in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers for eight years between 1978 and 1986. During that time he completed tours in Cyprus, Germany and Canada.
The challenge takes place on Saturday 7 September in Trinity Park, Ipswich, and will feature 15 gigantic obstacles, making it the biggest inflatable 5K obstacle event ever created. Colin will be doing two rounds of the course, taking on the 10K version of the challenge.
His motivation to take part is to show what can be achieved after sight loss and highlight the vital role Blind Veterans UK have played in getting him back to his former self. He says:
“People often write off the blind and partially sighted so I want to highlight the amazing things that can be achieved even after you’ve lost your sight. When I first lost my sight I was a shadow of my former self. Luckily I found out about Blind Veterans UK and thanks to their support and rehabilitation I refound my mojo and I’m living life to the fullest.
“I challenge my fellow East Anglians to join Team Blind Veterans and take on the 5 or 10K with us. It is going to be tough but like I always say, if you’re doing it for a great cause and you believe in yourself, anything is possible.”
