Pathfinder launches new Service Leaver’s Transition Workbook

A practical 200-page workbook to help service leavers plan careers, finances and life after leaving the Armed Forces

Pathfinder has launched a new practical resource designed to support serving personnel, service leavers and veterans as they plan their move into civilian life.

The Service Leaver’s Transition Workbook is now available as both an A4 paperback and a downloadable PDF, offering a structured way for individuals to think through the key decisions involved in leaving the Armed Forces.

Unlike general advice guides, the workbook is designed as a hands-on planning tool. It combines structured questions, exercises and prompts to help users explore their options, organise their thinking and work through their next steps.

A structured approach to transition

For many service leavers, transition involves more than one challenge at a time, including career direction, housing, finances and family considerations. While there is no shortage of information available, what is often missing is a clear way to organise that information into a practical plan.

The workbook has been developed to address that gap.

Covering more than 200 pages, it supports planning across areas including:

  • career direction and civilian pathways
  • employability, CVs and interview preparation
  • training, qualifications and funding
  • financial planning and income considerations
  • housing and relocation
  • family and household decisions
  • wellbeing, routine and support
  • action planning for the first 30 and 90 days

Each section is designed to help users move from broad thinking to structured action.

Designed for real-world use

The workbook is intended for use at any stage of transition, whether individuals are still serving and planning ahead, actively preparing to leave, or already adjusting to civilian life.

It can be used independently or alongside resettlement support, career advice or welfare provision.

The structured format also makes it suitable for use in one-to-one discussions or group sessions led by resettlement staff, advisers or support organisations.

Available in print and digital formats

The A4 paperback edition is available via Amazon for £24.99 and is designed for those who prefer to work directly on the pages:

Supporting transition through practical tools

The workbook forms part of Pathfinder’s wider focus on supporting service leavers with practical, accessible resources covering employment, training and life after service.

Rather than offering a single “right” path, the workbook is designed to help individuals identify what matters most in their own situation and build a plan that reflects their priorities.
