Based at Monmouth Beach in Lyme Regis, our programme offers a unique learning environment with highly practical training for students. The course incorporates the City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Boatbuilding (Advanced), but extends well beyond the requirements of this qualification. Students receive comprehensive, hands-on instruction in both traditional and contemporary boatbuilding methods, alongside a wide range of related skills.
In addition to the City & Guilds qualification, the Boat Building Academy is highly regarded throughout the industry, and many of our graduates have gone on to work professionally in boatbuilding both in the UK and internationally.
Workshops are open on weekday evenings and Saturdays (subject to Health and Safety requirements), and students spend the majority of their time engaged in practical work. There is also the opportunity for students to commission and build their own boat as part of the course.
ELCAS funding can be used to contribute towards the cost of the course, with the remaining course fee of £18,950 payable by the student. As a charity, we also offer a limited number of bursary places to help with course fees. Prospective students are welcome to contact us for further information and details on how to apply.
