Residents enjoyed live music, food and drink as they marked Founders’ Day at The Royal Star & Garter Home in Solihull on Friday 11th January, marking the charity’s 103rd anniversary…
The Royal Star & Garter Homes was founded in 1916 to care for the severely injured young men returning from the battlegrounds of the First World War, opening its doors to residents on 14 January.

The Hipcats provided the entertainment, playing Big Band classics from the likes of George Gershwin and Glenn Miller, while residents were also treated to a celebratory glass of wine and canapés.
Among those entertained during the Founders’ Day fun was Pat. She is a guest at the successful Star & Garter Club day care service, run from the Solihull Home. She said: “It’s a stunning charity, and the Home here is lovely. I’m in no doubt that if I need to, I’d like to come here to live. It’s a fabulous place.”
More than a century after it was set up, The Royal Star & Garter Homes cares for ex-Servicemen and women, and their partners, living with disability or dementia. It also has a Home in Surbiton, Surrey, and a third will open this year in High Wycombe.
