‘Thank You Youth Festival’ Hailed As A Hit

A memorial structure with curved walls and a central obelisk honors the Royal Navy. Steps lead up to it, surrounded by a grassy area with trees and a small display in the foreground.

The National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) have held their Thank You Youth Festival, welcoming over 700 students from schools across the country to take part in a number of World War One themed workshops as part of the Thank You movement…

Amongst the many activities happening across the sun soaked site throughout the day, students had the opportunity to engage in drama workshops with workers of the Women’s Land Army, create art works inspired by the dazzle camouflage of warships and to be put through their paces by an Army Drill Sargeant in full period uniform.

The NMA also hosted the Museum of London Transport ‘Battle Bus’, an original 1914 omnibus converted into a travelling exhibition about the war and its impact on society.

The day was a huge success, with a lot of positive comments from teachers, students and general visitors, who saw the activities whilst out on site themselves. The NMA have received some brilliant feedback already, including this from a teacher whose school were part of the event:

“Thank you so much for yesterday. That was amazing. Just simply wonderful. The workshops were excellent and every single member of staff we had contact with was delightful. Honestly, really, really well done and thank you for inviting us. An excellent opportunity for our students to visit and to learn.”
