First he was Captain Tom Moore, then he was given the rank of Honorary Colonel, now he is to be know as Sir Tom Moore!
Prime Minister Boris Johnson recommended that Sir Tom be honoured with a knighthood to Her Majesty the Queen, who has now approved this.
The 100-year old veteran has raised over £32M for NHS charities by walking laps of his back garden in Bedfordshire.
Sir Tom told BBC Breakfast: “To get this honour is so outstanding that I really can’t say how different I feel, but I certainly feel that I’ve been given an outstanding honour by the Queen and Prime Minister.”
Sir Tom’s daughter Hannah then revealed he was looking forward to working on his new charitable venture.
The World War 2 veteran has said he wants to tackle the issue of loneliness and isolation. Sir Tom added, “One of the things that strikes me that is really necessary at the moment, is for so many people throughout the world are feeling lonely.”
Sir Tom did tell Pathfinder International in an exclusive magazine interview that ““I am taking some days to rest my legs, but think of this like a Cricket Test Match, I am just breaking for tea after the first day!”
Now after receiving his latest honour, it seems like not only is tomorrow a good day as has been Sir Tom’s catchphrase, but today is also a good day too.
Congratulations from us all at Pathfinder International magazine – arise Sir Tom Moore!
