Dunfermline in Fife has celebrated the news that the town and surrounding area raised more than £42,000 for last year’s Scottish Poppy Appeal…
Christine Evans, the Poppyscotland volunteer Area Organiser for Dunfermline, revealed the sum to be handed over to the leading Armed Forces charity, with the proceeds going directly to help veterans and their families both in the local area and across the country.
Christine, who has volunteered for the charity since 2012, said: “The overall total of £42,638.34 is a wonderful testament to all who gave of their time to help fundraise, as well as all of those in Dunfermline and the surrounding areas who dug deep to donate to the Poppyscotland cause.
“The biggest thank you goes to my huge army of volunteers. I hope our newbies enjoyed their first Poppy Appeal and I hope to see them again in 2020. Without you all, none of this would be possible. And, as always, this incredible total wouldn’t be possible without the public generosity of our area which never lets us down.”
Gordon Michie, Head of Fundraising at Poppyscotland, said: “We are blessed to have so many special volunteers across the country, epitomised by the likes of Christine Evans and her wonderful team. The fundraising efforts in Dunfermline were once again nothing short of remarkable, which is evident by the tremendous total raised.
“This money will allow Poppyscotland to continue to provide its life-changing work in helping Scotland’s Armed Forces community and to show that we are behind them, always.”
