Blind Veterans UK are calling on you to take part in #24Unplugged, their new phone-free challenge this January, to raise urgently needed funds for ex-Service men and women who have lost their sight…
You can sign up individually or refer a friend or family member to spend Saturday 26th January without smartphones or internet. Then get ready to switch OFF your phone to power ON your day!
Phones help us feel connected to the world, but can you imagine having no one to turn to, online or otherwise? Blind Veterans UK know that tens of thousands of ex-service men and women around the nation experience not only the effects of sight loss, but isolation too.
Taking part in #24Unplugged means that every minute you spend away from your smartphone will help the charity to reconnect blind veterans with their communities, and support them to rebuild their lives after losing their sight.
The money you raise will also help by:
- Helping them learn the vital skills they need to rebuild their lives after sight loss
- Providing tools and technology to allow them to be independent in their own homes
- Recruiting and training volunteers to visit them in their homes providing company
- Organising social events in local communities to bring them together and build companionship
- Offering respite breaks for blind veterans and their carers
