Armed Forces to pilot year-long ‘Foundation Scheme’ for under-25s in 2026

The Armed Forces will launch a paid year-long “Foundation Scheme” in March 2026, offering around 150 under-25s the chance to gain skills and experience across the Army, Royal Navy and RAF. The pilot programme aims to build leadership, teamwork and employability, with plans to expand to more than 1,000 places if demand grows.

The UK has announced a £600m air-defence package for Ukraine, including automated counter-drone turrets, RAVEN and GRAVEHAWK systems, and more than 1,000 missiles delivered since June. The support aims to protect Ukraine’s infrastructure over winter and forms part of the UK’s record £4.5bn in military aid this year.

1,000 military homes upgraded ahead of schedule as housing overhaul accelerates

1,000 of the most dilapidated military homes have been refurbished ahead of schedule, with a further 250 now set for upgrade as part of the MOD’s £9bn Defence Housing Strategy. Families are moving in ahead of Christmas, marking early progress in the renewal of more than 40,000 service homes over the next decade.
