Johnny Mercer Becomes Minister for Veterans’ Affairs

British Army Veteran and Conservative MP, Johnny Mercer has been announced as the new Minister for Veterans’ Affairs.

Mr Mercer previously held the role of Minister of Defence People for Veterans but had “no choice” to leave this position over lack of legal protection for Veterans involved in the troubles in Northern Ireland.

Mr Mercer said on Twitter he was “delighted” to be the UK’s Minister for Veterans’ Affairs.

“Delighted to be the UK’s first Cabinet Minister for Veteran’s Affairs, which together with the Office for Veterans Affairs, finally aligns us with our international allies in how veterans are represented across Government”, he said.

The British Army veteran added: “Promises to our Veterans are important, and will be kept”.
