Second round of VALOUR funding opens as government targets wider veterans support network

Veterans’ organisations, charities and councils across the UK are being encouraged to apply for funding to join VALOUR, the government’s new nationwide support network for former service personnel.

The Ministry of Defence has opened a second round of development funding for organisations seeking to become VALOUR-recognised centres, following an initial rollout that saw 14 centres awarded a share of £13m earlier this year.

The wider £50m VALOUR programme aims to create a more coordinated system of support for veterans, bringing together local services covering housing, health, employment and wellbeing through recognised community hubs.

Funding between £200,000 and £1m is available through the latest round, with the Office for Veterans’ Affairs particularly encouraging applications from organisations in London and the East of England, where an estimated 100,000 veterans could benefit from improved local support access.

Minister for Veterans and People Louise Sandher-Jones MP said London and the East of England both had strong military links and should have dedicated local access points for veterans seeking support.

She said: “It is only right that veterans in these areas have a physical point of contact where they can be assisted to access the support that’s right for them.”

The first wave of VALOUR-recognised centres included organisations in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and across England, including Hull 4 Heroes, SSAFA in Glasgow and Alabaré in Salisbury.

Alongside the local centres, the VALOUR system will also include a headquarters within the Office for Veterans’ Affairs, regional field officers and an online support platform intended to improve coordination between councils, charities and service providers.

The government said the programme forms part of its wider 10-year Veterans Strategy, designed to improve support for former service personnel and strengthen connections between veterans and their communities.

Expressions of interest for the latest funding round opened on 14 May and close on 15 June 2026.
