Stoll, the leading provider of housing and support for vulnerable Veterans, will address the immediate social housing shortage for Veterans with a commitment to build 100 new homes. Building work will begin on 34 new homes in Aldershot, the home of the British army, later this year to help tackle the local social housing shortage for Veterans.
Stoll is also actively looking for potential sites to build homes in Wiltshire and East London, which are also identified as hotspots in the research.
Stoll Chairman, Air Commodore Andy Fryer, said: “We are kick starting our centenary celebrations with this bold and ambitious announcement to build 100 new homes. With more resources, we can help even more Veterans. We have provided housing and support for 100 years – we now need people’s support to help us build 100 new homes for the next generation of armed forces personnel.”
Deborah Quilgars from the Centre for Housing Policy at the University of York, said: “Our research highlights the difficulties faced by single Veterans with health and other support needs in finding affordable housing, especially in garrison towns and metropolitan areas. There is a need for better supported housing pathways for Veterans, and good quality housing alongside floating support services to prevent further homelessness.”
Stoll is working with Riverside and Haig Housing as part of the Aldershot initiative and has also secured funding from the Homes and Communities Agency, the Bernard Sunley Charitable Foundation and the Wolfson Foundation to get the build started.
