The Help for Heroes Big Battlefield Bike Ride is an iconic cycling challenge that combines military history, camaraderie and pedal power in an event like no other…
In June The Big Battlefield Bike Ride (BBBR) will be raising funds in support of wounded, injured and sick Veterans and their families. More than 200 fundraisers will ride alongside Heroes, taking on a 350-mile route through Northern France. This year’s ride commemorates 75 years since the D-Day landings and will take in some of history’s most iconic battle sites, retracing the steps of those who fought.
The BBBR is a unique challenge and one that lots of fundraisers sign up to take part in again and again. Former paratrooper Glenn Parker took part in last year’s BBBR and was so inspired by the experience that he is now gearing up for this year’s challenge. Glenn said:
“Myself and my fiancé did the Everest Base Camp in 2017. The reaction was amazing! We managed to raise £18,000 and it was an inspiring experience we will never forget. I wanted to do something different to see how much I could raise. I am not a huge cyclist, so I thought it would be a challenge for me. We kept each other’s spirits up as we were cycling, in the evenings, with jokes and laughs and celebrations.”
Glenn has some words of advice on fundraising: “The fundraising target is a challenge in itself, but the Events Team are amazing and they are always on hand to offer advice. Don’t be afraid to ask them a question because they are happy to help. One of the biggest things I have learnt is don’t be afraid to ask for donations, because you might be surprised at how many people are willing to help.”
Are you looking for a challenge in 2019? There is still time to join Glenn and be a part of this iconic ride. To find out more about the BBBR, or to sign up, click here.
