The founders of Southsea based veteran peer support organisation All Call Signs are completing 11 days of physical challenges to raise funds and awareness for The Royal British Legion. SJ James & Dan Arnold, veterans themselves, are aiming to raise £2,000 for the annual Poppy Appeal which is in danger of being less successful this year due to coronavirus restrictions.

They came up with the concept of 11K, 11 ways for 11 days which will see the pair complete a series of runs, rides, swims, kayaks, triathlons and more in the first 11 days of November, finishing on Remembrance Day with a Top Gear style race (on foot VS public transport) in time for the traditional two minutes of silence at 11am.

Their itinerary is as follows:

1. SJ Runs 2. Dan Rides 3. SJ Runs With Weight 4. Dan Kayaks 5. SJ & Dan Relay 6. SJ Steps 8. Dan Tabs 9. SJ Hill Reps 10. SJ & Dan Triathlon 11. Race To The Cenotaph (Run VS Public Transport)

SJ James said “The Poppy Appeal is the biggest yearly fundraiser for the military community. Covid has seen the number of poppy sellers on the streets slashed almost to nothing. It’s never been more important to find more diverse ways of raising funds. This is us doing what we can to make sure veterans and service personnel don’t miss out on vital services, especially given the current climate is likely to create an increase in support needed.”

Dan Arnold said “We see first hand what the legion does for veterans, service personnel and their families. Not to mention the countless other organisations that receive funding, guidance and support from them every day. Whatever we can do, we’ll do.”

The pair will be going live each day in November to update you on their journey and are actively encouraging everyone to take part in the challenges and fundraise for RBL in their own areas.
