A small business in Kirkby-in-Ashfield has pledged its support to the Armed Forces Community by signing the Armed Forces Covenant…

County Battery Services Ltd, based on Field Industrial Estate, Lowmoor Road, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, currently employs one veteran and decided to publically show their support to the wider Defence community as they understand the benefits that military training can bring to the civilian workplace.

Richard Fuller, Managing Director of County Battery, explained: “I am from a military family so I have always had an interest in the Armed Forces from a young age. My father, grandfather and great grandfather served our country, and I previously considered joining the Army myself before I embarked on a civilian career in battery industry.”

County Battery Services is a family-run business, established in 1974, with over 40 years’ experience and expertise in servicing customer requirements within the battery industry.

Graham Joules-Good, is County Battery’s Warehouse Manager, and joined the business after serving as a full-time member of the Royal Air Force. Speaking about the skills and proficiency he has bought to his new place of work, he said:

“I specialised in logistics during my RAF career, which provided me with a vast amount of transferable skills. It’s my job at County Battery to ensure the warehouse is organised, well-stocked and safe. It’s a fairly small warehouse compared to my previous places of work, but it’s been great to rise to the challenge of organising deliveries and grouping products together in a limited amount of space.

“The communication skills I learnt during my military career also allow me to speak to my colleagues in a clear and easily understandable way, meaning we always meet our deadlines. I can honestly say that County Battery are a great company to work for, the atmosphere and the work ethic of the staff is fantastic.”

Graham joined the organisation around seven months ago, and has since implemented a number of new processes in the businesses warehouse to ensure that jobs are done in the most efficient manner.

Richard Fuller continued: “The qualities Graham learnt through his military career were perfect for us. We needed someone to come into the warehouse and hit the ground running, organising our stock and ensure all orders were dealt with in a timely manner. I believe the transferable skills Graham brought into our business have been great, and I would recommend other employers to look favourably upon the skills of military service leavers.”

County Battery are also showing their support to serving Armed Forces Personnel and veterans by offering a discount on their products at stores inKirkby, Nuthall and Ilkeston or when shopping online with discount code: CB10.

County Battery achieved a Ministry of Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Bronze award in December 2016, and are hoping to gain further recognition for their continuing support to employees who are members of the Armed Forces community.
