Pathfinder International magazine is proud official media partner of the National Armed Forces Day Main Event which was due to take place in Scarborough this year. The COVID19 pandemic meant the event has been postponed until next year in Scarborough, however with restrictions still in place for social distancing, this year’s offering will now take place online, as the team behind it explain…

A virtual celebration of the nation’s Armed Forces will be coming to Scarborough on 27 June.

We are hosting Armed Forces Day Virtual Event 2020 (AFDVE 2020) instead of the Armed Forces Day National Event we would have been hosting on the same weekend if the coronavirus pandemic hadn’t occurred.

AFDVE 2020 will be hosted online at scarborougharmedforcesday.co.uk. The website will be live from Monday 22 June.
The online content, which will be added to the website in the lead up to 27 June, will shine a spotlight on local and national military veterans, and serving personnel, honouring their unstinting commitment, service and sacrifice.

Visitors to the website will be able to view military related videos and personal stories, enjoy images and personal recollections from previous Armed Forces Day events, take part in themed children’s activities and a children’s competition.

Cllr Tony Randerson, cabinet member with responsibility for the delivery of the Armed Forces Day National Event, which has been postponed until June 2021, said:

“The virtual celebration will be a chance for us, our event partners and all our supporters to celebrate and honour our Armed Forces in a way we never have before.

“We know it won’t be anywhere close to a replacement for the physical event, but we really hope it will go some way to filling the gap and will being some of the enjoyment of Armed Forces Day into people’s homes.”

Updates about the event and details of the children’s competition will be added to scarborougharmedforcesday.co.uk and will also be posted on the ‘Scarborough Armed Forces Day’ Facebook page.

Pathfinder International editor, Mal Robinson has compiled an Armed Forces Quiz on behalf of Pathfinder and added:

“It was a real shame this year’s event did not take place in person due to COVID19, however we still get to thank the troops online, on what has been another remarkable year for them in their assistance with the pandemic.”

Join in with Pathfinder’s campaign to raise 3 cheers for the forces on Saturday June 27 at 3pm. Check out the information here and be sure to join in!
