Four RAF officers have entered the GODZone Adventure Race as part of its centenary celebrations, being formed towards the end of the First World War on 1st April 1918…

In recognition of the occasion, the race organisers decided that the team number is 100. The team comprises of four RAF officers: Squadron Leader Jamie Buckle, Squadron Leader Penny Grayson, Flight Lieutenant Charlie Butterfield and Flight Lieutenant Laura Frowen.

The OA is sponsoring the team to help promote our employment and benevolence services to the officer community.

Team captain, Jamie Buckle, said: “This is a momentous event, which will test our fitness, endurance and fortitude. We are excited to be part of this race, especially as part of the RAF 100 celebrations. A huge thank you to the OA for sponsoring the team.”

The GODZone Pure is on 1st-10th March 2018, in the stunning Fiordland in New Zealand. More than 390 racers, from around the world, will compete in unsupported teams of four, travelling across approximately 373 miles (600km) of wilderness.

The race will consist of up to 10 days of non-stop racing, including sleeping in the elements, navigating at night, as well as canyoning, coasteering, kayaking, running, mountain biking, orienteering, packrafting and trekking. Team members must be within 100 metres of each another at all times.

Lee Holloway, OA Chief Executive Officer, said: “The OA is proud to sponsor the RAF Adventure Team. The RAF is celebrating its 100th anniversary; the OA was formed two years later and has supported its officers ever since.”
