The role of the Armed Forces never stops, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day and Christmas is included!
So where are our troops dotted around the globe over the festive period for 2019? The list below includes some of the locations the UK’s military is active…
- Afghanistan – around a 1,000 troops are currently training UK allies.
- Estonia – 850 Queen’s Royal Hussars are here for NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence operations.
- Iraq – around a 1,000 troops are stationed in a training role.
- Mali – 90 troops are present assisting French forces in counter terrorist duties.
- Poland – 150 Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are deployed.
- Falklands – 1,000 troops are stationed here.
- South Sudan – Troops are here in a peacekeeping capacity.
In addition to these areas, units are on standby on home soil, whilst 14 Naval ships will be at sea over Christmas, including 1 submarine.
