The sound of home will be on the airwaves in the Falkland Islands next week for members of 69 Gurkha Field Squadron, as BFBS Gurkha Radio is broadcasting live during weekday afternoons

Brunei-based presenter Yograj Rai has travelled down to the South Atlantic and will be on air from 2 until 4pm local time from Monday 9th to Friday 13th March.

It’s the first time that BFBS Gurkha Radio has been to the region and Yograj is there in support of the Kent-based unit while it is on exercise carrying out a range of construction tasks.

“My plan is to visit all the project areas, talk to the soldiers and let our listeners know why they are here and the challenges they face,” said Yograj, “and of course, I will try my very best to connect them with their loved ones wherever they may be.”

Families at the unit’s base in Shorncliffe and further afield will be able to hear Yograj’s shows online via www.bfbs.com/radio/online/falklands. They can also post messages on the BFBS Gurkha Radio Facebook page, which will be read out live in the Falkland Islands.

“I’m going to spend as much time as possible providing coverage of the unit’s stories and experiences,” added Yograj, “wherever they are on the Islands.”
